Every verdict AutoUnmask produces is an opinion, formed from whatever the listing shows us — the text, the photos, and, where you’ve purchased one, an official vehicle history report. Read that plainly: it is not a mechanical inspection, and it is not financial advice.

What a AutoUnmask score means

The score reflects the price, the paperwork signals available to us, the listing’s language, cached knowledge about common faults for that model, and (on the free tier) what the photos show. It cannot see anything the listing doesn’t show. A high score is not a promise the car is mechanically sound; a low score is not a legal finding about the seller.

We assess listings, not people

When something about a listing has the hallmarks of a scam, we say that about the listing — never that a named seller is a scammer or a criminal. If you believe a listing is fraudulent, report it to the platform it’s hosted on and, if money has changed hands, to the police and Scamwatch.

Before you buy

Always physically inspect a car before buying it, ideally with an independent mechanic. Run your own PPSR check if the Inspection Pack wasn’t purchased or doesn’t cover it. AutoUnmask is a starting point for that process, not a substitute for it.

No guarantees

We don’t use the words guaranteed, verified, or certified about anything AutoUnmask itself produces, because we can’t stand behind more than the input allows. Where our confidence in a judgement is low, the verdict says so directly rather than guessing.
